The Mercer Island boys continue to hold the top spot in their league, while the Islander girls are one game behind league leader Bainbridge.

MIHS boys lacrosse featured as Game of the Week

Tuesday’s game between the Mercer Island boys lacrosse team and Bothell-Inglemoor is the US Lacrosse – Washington State Chapter game of the week and will be streamed live by The Lacrosse Network.

Tuesday’s Washington state boys high school lacrosse game between Mercer Island High School and Bothell-Inglemoor High Schools will be streamed live on The Lacrosse Network as the Washington State High School Lacrosse Game of the Week.

The boys varsity game, which gets underway at 7 p.m. PDT, Tuesday, April 9 from Bothell High School in Bothell, Wash. is the sixth of a 13-game prep schedule in Washington state to be streamed live on YouTube via The Lacrosse Network.

In Tuesday’s Boys Varsity, Division I King West Conference matchup, the first-place Mercer Island Islanders at 7-2-0 overall and 5-0-0 in conference play, entertain fourth-place Bothell-Inglemoor at 2-4-0 overall and 1-4-0 in conference action.

The five-time state champion Islanders are coming off one of the most successful road trips in their history with wins over Maine state champion Scarborough High School on Thursday and Massachusetts Division II state champion Concord-Carlisle on Saturday.  Mercer Island’s only loss came in its opening game on Tuesday at the hands of Massachusetts Division I state champion and Nike/US Lacrosse #24 ranked Duxbury.

Veteran lacrosse broadcaster Steve Willits will handle the play-by-play with the Hall of Famer Tony Olney at his side as the color analyst.

The webcast is a produced by the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association and Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association through a partnership with The Lacrosse Network to stream local high school lacrosse games live on YouTube during the 2013 Washington state high school lacrosse season.

The relationship is the first of its kind for state high school lacrosse governing bodies and an international webcast provider.   The Lacrosse Network provides live webcasting of the sports two professional leagues the National Lacrosse League and Major League lacrosse along with the LXM Pro Lacrosse Tour.

A total of seven boys and six girls games will be streamed to an international audience on YouTube.

Washington state high school lacrosse games on YouTube will also be available for mobile viewing live and on demand via iPad, iPhone and most Android devices.

Founded in 2005, YouTube has more than 800 million unique visitors each month, with the site receiving more than four billion views per day. Seventy percent (70%) of YouTube traffic comes from outside the United States.

 

Washington lacrosse standings through April 1

The latest standings for boys and girls Washington lacrosse are out. The Mercer Island boys team has taken sole possession of the top spot, with a perfect 5-0 league record. Bellevue is half a game behind with a 4-0 league record.

The Mercer Island girls are in a four-way tie for first place in the Alki Conference with Bainbridge, Holy Names and Seattle Prep. All four teams have 1-0 league records. Mercer Island is 2-2-0 overall, as is Holy Names. Bainbridge has a 3-0-1 overall record while Prep is 1-4-0 overall.

Spring sports rankings and other notes

Spring sports are well underway around the state and Mercer Island teams are doing well.

With the new season comes a new set of rankings.

After a successful fall and winter of ranking sports around the state, the Score Czar is rankings baseball, boys soccer and fastpitch this spring – a monumental undertaking. The following rankings have been updated as of March 30.

The Mercer Island baseball team is ranked No. 12 in the state. Mount Si is the only other KingCo school ranked higher than the Islanders at No. 5.

The boys soccer team is ranked No. 11. Liberty is ranked No. 3, while Mount Si is No. 12 after the Islanders. Bainbridge, the reigning 3A state champs are ranked No. 14.

The Islanders fastpitch team is ranked No. 34 overall in the 3A category.

It’s spring break this week at MIHS but that doesn’t mean there aren’t games going on. The boys lacrosse team is traveling back east to play some of the top teams in the country, and the baseball team will play several home games this week. Updates/rainouts will be updated if there are any.
