April 12th, 2012 at 9:06 am by Megan ManaganEarlier this year a state Legislator introduced a bill (Senate Bill 6383) that deals with how the WIAA deals with punishing schools and teams.
The bill came about after the King’s Way Christian volleyball team was denied entry to the 1B state tournament for playing one too many games during the regular season.
Doug Pacey, with the Tacoma News Tribune has more about the bill. It passed both houses earlier in the March and was signed by the governor on March 29.
Lacrosse standings
April 11th, 2012 at 10:30 am by Megan ManaganThe latest lacrosse standings are out for the boys and girls teams, for games through Monday, April 9.
The Mercer Island boys are currently in second place in the Division I Southwest Conference with a 6-4 overall record and 4-1 in league. King’s Way, a team out of Vancouver, Wash. is the No. 1 team in the conference with a 6-2 overall record and 6-0 in league. The Islanders will host King’s Way this Saturday, April 14 at MIHS in a 3 p.m. game.
On the girls side, the Mercer Island girls are tied for third place in the Alki Conference. The team is tied with Garfield with a 2-2-1 record (overall and conference).

April 5th, 2012 at 9:09 am by Megan ManaganBill Marsh, an assistant coach with the Mercer Island High School football program, has been announced as the head football coach at Archbishop Murphy.
Marsh was the head coach at Eastside Catholic until 2008. He joined the Islanders in 2010 as an assistant, coaching the wide receivers and special teams, while also serving as the freshman team head coach.
Governor signs bill extending MMA licensing

Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire has signed House Bill 2301, extending licensing and medical requirements for amateur mixed martial artists.
MIHS spring break sports schedule

Spring sport updates/cancelations
March 30th, 2012 at 11:34 am by Megan ManaganA few updates on some matches for Mercer Island spring sports that were canceled/postponed this week due to weather.
The girls tennis match against Lake Washington, which was originally scheduled for this past Wednesday, has been reset for Wednesday, April 11 at 3:45 p.m. at MIHS.
The girls softball game which was scheduled for Monday, April 2 has been canceled due to spring break. It will be made up sometime after the break.
I’ll have the schedule for next week’s games up a little later on. The high school is on spring break all next week, but will continue to play a variety of games.
MIHS boys lacrosse ranked No. 5 in region
March 29th, 2012 at 10:29 am by Megan ManaganThe Mercer Island boys lacrosse team has been ranked the No. 5 team in the western region by Lacrosse Magazine.
The list includes the top 10 boys teams across the Western United States as of March 28.
It says the Islanders are “The Islanders look primed for another state title. Mercer Island picked up a solid victory over Oregon rivals Lake Oswego and Lincoln in the Northwest Invitational over the weekend”.
Bellevue was ranked No. 6 on a list dominated by teams from California and Colorado.
The Islanders are on a road trip to New York for a three game swing starting this weekend.
